Christ Took the Terror

33 If only there were someone to arbitrate between us, to lay his hand upon us both,

34 someone to remove God’s rod from me, so that his terror would frighten me no  more.

35 Then I would speak up without fear of him, but as it now stands with me, I cannot. – Job 9

If only there were someone to go between me and God.  And there is.  The punishment I deserve has been removed from me and put on Christ.  Terror that is due me has been taken by Christ.  Because of that I can speak up without fear.

I often forget the extent that Christ went for me so that I could be in right standing with the Father.  When I feel like pain or terror from my past comes, I need to remember that Christ has taken that.

If you are a follower of Christ, don’t live in fear of your past.  You may have earthly consequence of your actions, but in terms of the spiritual, Christ took those on himself at the cross.  The consequences of our actions had to land somewhere.  Becoming a follower of Christ means that the consequences of our actions have been laid on Christ at the cross.  He took the hit.   To live in fear of what Christ has forgiven is to negate the work of the cross.

Speak up without fear, if Christ has taken your rod and your terror, you are in right relationship with the creator.

Thanks be to him.

  1. I have been preparing to teach at House of Prayer-and meditating on the life of Christ. What makes Him the faithful High Priest to us is the fact that He took the hit as Son of Man!! I think we forget that He really felt the hit as a man! Great sermon yesterday. Roberta
