Famous for Others

11 Then King Hiram of Tyre sent messengers to David, along with cedar timber and carpenters and stonemasons, and they built David a palace. 12 And David realized that the Lord had confirmed him as king over Israel and had blessed his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel. – 2 Sam 5

The Lord blessed David for the sake of his people Israel.  When David was picked out from his brothers to be king, it was never really about him.  When David defeated Goliath, it was never about him.  When he was winning wars, it wasn’t about him.  When he was anointed king, it was not about him.  When he slept with Bathsheba, it became all about him – and things began to unravel.

I have been taken again by Ephesians 4

11It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up – Eph 4.

What I have been given is not for myself.  What you have been given is not for yourself.

The leadership skills were not trusted to you or developed in you for you; but for others.  Songs?  For others.  Teachings?  Others. Creativity?  Others.  Skills?  Others. A sliver of fame?  Others.

All we have been given is for the sake of his people.  There are no rock stars in the kingdom.  We don’t exist for ourselves. We exist for each other.

  1. Thanks..sometimes I need to shut up,and humbly bow,in reverance!!

  2. I thought that we exist to bring glory to God.

  3. Ruthie, yes, ultimately we are to bring glory to God. I think one way we do that is by taking care of each other.
