Famous

image 3 They began saying to each other, “Let’s make bricks and harden them with fire.” (In this region bricks were used instead of stone, and tar was used for mortar.) 4 Then they said, “Come, let’s build a great city for ourselves with a tower that reaches into the sky. This will make us famous and keep us from being scattered all over the world.” – Gen 11

“This will make us famous.”  God would have none of that.  He would not allow his people to unite for their fame.  For his fame, yes, for theirs, no.

Why do we do the things that we do?  Is it to make ourselves famous?  If it is, God will tear down what we are building. He will confuse our language.  He will make our words unintelligible to many.

Fame is not for us, it is for God.

Honest question:  Are there things that you are trying to do that are REALLY designed to fame yourself instead of God?

It is an ever present tension.  I can say that my heart’s desire is to make God famous, but my own fame fights for position.  Much more than I would like to admit.

How about you?
