For or Against?

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.  – Lk 2:18-19

Jesus had just returned from 40 days of fasting.  He heads to his hometown an begins teaching.  His opening statement is Lk 2:18.  he explains that there is a reason that the spirit of God is on him.  To preach good news to the poor, tell of freedom, give blind people sight, release oppressed and proclaim God’s favor.

The spirit of God was not on him to protest, to accuse, to picket, or to come against people.  Through the spirit, Jesus was proactive in the lives of people.

I want to be known for what I am for, not for what I am against.

God, through your spirit, help me build into the lives of people and tell of your favor.
