Go

Then they said, “Let’s call the girl and ask her about it.” So they called Rebekah and asked her, “Will you go with this man?”
“I will go,” she said.
– Gen 24:57

Abraham had sent a servant out to find a wife for his Son Isaac. The servant had prayed and was led to Rebekah. There was no doubt that this was directed by God. Rebekah’s family concluded that God had spoken and that she should go with the servant and be taken to Isaac. They called her in and asked if she would go.

Two things:

  1. God does not force himself. He is a gentleman. He allows us to choose our own way. He many times speaks clearly and leaves the decision up to us.
  2. She went. In a moment’s decision, she left. Left everything she knew, joined people she didn’t know, went to a place she had never been, to marry a man she had never met. All she knew was that God was asking her to go. She went.

Rebekah blows me away. I want all the answers. I want to know what the picture looks like. I want to see the future, set the goals, know the ups and downs. Sometimes God just asks “Will you go?” It is in that moment that I have to decided between knowing the specifics of the journey or trusting God. My souls’ desire is to trust God regardless of the specifics of the future.

God, I know there are things in life that I may be called to but never understand. I pray in those moments that I would have no doubt that it is from you. I don’t need to know the specifics of where to go or how to get there or what everything will look like. I just need to know that it is you and you are asking me to take a step. I want to live in such a way that I can operate out of total trust in you.

  1. This is encouraging to me in that it\’s almost exactly how I feel God\’s led me to Rose, and now it seems Gordon-Conwell. Thanks for the post :-).

    Guess I should just go.

    God bless,
