Keep it in Mind

When he told his father as well as his brothers, his father rebuked him and said, “What is this dream you had? Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow down to the ground before you?” His brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind. Gen 37:10-11

Joseph had shared a dream with his Father. In the dream they all bowed down to Joseph. Probably not the most popular thing to share. I can imagine that it would cause quite a stir. Maybe I should try something like that the next time my family is together. “Hey guys, thanks for coming. Just wanted you to know that you will be bowing down to me soon.”

Later, the dream would become reality and they would serve Joseph.

What would it have been like to have been in the middle of that initial discussion? What would it have been like to be Joseph’s Father, Jacob?

Jacob kept this matter in mind. In the middle of the madness, Jacob tucked this experience in his mind. A similar thing is said of Mary and her experience as the Mother of Christ. Keep the matter in mind.

Sometimes I sense God speaking so clearly and so quickly it is hard to keep up. Sometimes the things I sense him saying do not make sense. They don’t add up, they just don’t seem quite right. What should I do with those things? Keep them in mind. Maybe they are not things that are to be acted on immediately. Maybe they are not things that should be given attention right now. Maybe they should be kept in mind so that when they come I can say “Yes, this is familiar. I have been keeping this very thing in mind.”

God, thanks for working in every circumstance. Help me not to miss the things that you want me to keep in mind. Help me to recall them at the proper time. All this for the sake of your name and reputation.

  1. Must have been a hard dream to share… Then to have your dad say your dream will never come true… Rough.

    God bless,

  2. Let me share a dream with you God has been working in my for about the past two years, ever since I gave my life to Him. It comes in small doses now and then, just as you described I feel, to get me prepared. It started just as letting me know I was to go out and help others, such as in mission trips. Then added in was one of the reasons I was at Rose-Hulman, to study civil engineering and use that as a base for my missions. Then, wouldn\’t you know it, I was introduced to the group Engineering Ministries International (eMi) http://www.emiusa.org I graduate in May so I look forward to God revealing more of this to me or even for that call to go and to see all He has in store for me.

Thank you for putting into words something I\’ve been feeling for a long time and never quite totally understood.

    Christopher
