Less of Me

1 Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite. 2 “Has the LORD spoken only through Moses?” they asked. “Hasn’t he also spoken through us?” And the LORD heard this.

3 (Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.) Numbers 12:1-3

One sentence. Easily lost in the story of Moses and Israel. Why is it that God would chose Moses to speak to Pharoe? Why choose him to do miracles? Why chose him to lead people out of their land and into a new one? Why would God speak with Moses face to face?

Humility.

It was the base that allowed Moses to thrive in God’s cause. As a matter of fact, later in the account of Israel, God strips Moses of the satisfaction of leading them into the land. Why? Because Moses lost humility.

Maybe we need less books on leadership and more focus on humility.

God, thanks for this great reminder of humble leadership. May you work in my life because you find that you have room here. My it not be so full of me that there is room for nothing else. You and I know the truth. My life is a result of the good things that you have done. Forgive me when I think that it is my doing.

Humbly.
