Professional Communication Course

The Professional Communication Course is a six-week live online coaching event with myself and a limited number of students (a smaller group mean higher interaction). Each week consists of a 60-75 minute live video call with me (and the student group), followed up by a weekly (short) homework assignments in prep for the next week.

Students will start with a passage of scripture.  Over six weeks we will run a passage of scripture through my personal communication system (Dig-Design-Develop-Deliver). By the end you will have (1) a customized high- impact sermon, (2) a system to develop other sermons, (3) practical experience, and (4) some new friends. The course will include some bonuses as well.
This coaching experience is highly interactive and deeply practical. You will receive tools, feedback, and the skills you need to communicate with excellence.

During out 6-weeks together I will unpack the system I have developed in over 30 years of communicating. Over those years, I have made tons of mistake, had the opportunity to learn from some of the best communicators, and have refined a system for peak impact. Learn from my experience and save yourself years of trial and error.

If you happen to miss a session or show up late, no worries, each session will be recorded and available to you for playback!

Classes are limited in size. Once the class is full, it will close until the next session.

FAQ’s

Can I use this class to craft an upcoming sermon or lesson? Absolutely. Each student will be asked to pick a scripture and as a final assignment you will craft a sermon around that scripture.
What if I can’t make a class session or I am late to class?  No detentions here. Each session will be recorded and posted online for playback as your schedule allows. While you will get the most out of the live sessions, I understand that sometimes schedules get crazy.

Will Scot be available to answer my questions along the way? Yes. If you have questions during the six weeks, we can connect outside of class. My goal is for you to understand and implement this system so that you can communicate more effectively.

I’m not sure I can swing the registration fee, what should I do?  Most churches want to invest in their staff. Share this system with your supervisor and ask if they would consider investing in your communication skills.

How about a money back guarantee? Done. If after showing up for each class and complete all assignments you find that you are not a more effective communicator, we will refund your entire registration fee.

What makes Scot a communication expert? I have been in full-time ministry for nearly 30 years and use public communication skills (and my method) approximately 100 times per year. I have trained with some of the most effective communicators in the world and have developed a personalized system which has resulted in me leading a growing congregation, writing books, producing a daily radio feature, and co-hosting a successful podcast.

How will we meet and stay in contact? Each week our class will meet via Zoom video calls. You can join on your phone or computer. We will stay in communication during the week via our private Slack channel. There we will post handouts, the previous weeks video, homework assignments and communicate back and forth in a forum-like style.

Can I talk to someone who has taken this class and get their feedback?  You bet. Send me an email (scot@scotlongyear.com) and we will send you some names of former students who have given us permission to use them as a reference.
Registration deadline: Sept 20. After the deadline or after maximum class sized is reached, registration is closed.
