Runnin’ for Rachael

Saturday I spoke to a group of men at an early morning men’s breakfast at First Christian Church (thanks for the grub boys).  After breakfast I suited up in my pink shirt and headed to join our team for the annual Race for the Cure.  Race for the Cure is a fantastic fundraiser to combat breast cancer.  Every year, hundreds of people land on St Mary of the Wood College and enjoy a brisk walk or run (1 mile or 5K).  This year, 25 new people showed up in pink.  All for Rachael.

Rachael is a cancer survivor and part of the chiX small group at exchange.  She mentioned that she was part of the planning team for the race.  Her small group of women quickly jumped on board.  In typical fashion, they went ape.  Custom T-shirts, signs, recruiting more people for the chiX team.  It was wonderfully crazy and such a great show of community.  Ryan (Rachael’s husband) and I became the token males of the team.  You have to swallow some pride to wear a pink shirt.  Pride swallowed.

We ran.  We walked.  We laughed.  We froze.  The kids showed up with home-made posterboard signs, chanting for Rachael.  It was a beautiful sign of community.  A community of pink.

Check out some more picts here.
