Being hit and rebuked. Doesn’t sound like fun to me. Sounds like something that should be avoided and refused. Here the author states that he would not refuse such actions if they come from a righteous man. Why? It makes him stronger.
I tend to avoid pain and conflict. I certainly avoid people wanting to rebuke me. But, if they are trusted friends, I should welcome it. Unlike enemies, they have my best interests at heart. They desire to make me a better person; a better follower of Christ.
I think true friendship invites correction. Some of my closest friend and I have an understanding of honesty. If we see something wrong, we call it out. We say it like it is. Sometimes it hurts, but it serves to correct.
May I not refuse the words of those who serve you. May I not see them as enemies, but as true friends.
