Uganda, 2011

image Each year, The Pastor’s Discipleship Network of Uganda host the annual Pastor’s Conference.  This conference is a gathering of a couple hundred African pastors who come to learn, connect, and worship.  These guys are my heroes.  Why?

  • The average pastor in Uganda has no formal education in Pastoral roles or preaching.
  • It is rare that the Pastor’s receive a salary from the church.  The take other jobs and lead a church in their “spare time.”  In order to save money, some of these Pastors sleep in the back of their churches
  • Uganda is severely under-resourced.  For a Pastor to have one decent study Bible is rare.  They have little money for ministry, building costs, and resources.  They are forced to be extremely creative among difficult circumstances.

They are the real deal.  Let’s be honest, if you run into a Pastor who is leading a church under challenging circumstances, getting resourced very little, and paid nothing, you know that he is there because he wants to be.  I think God honors that.

Each year, Ugandan Pastors are invited to an annual conference.  For the conference, the leaders of the Pastors Discipleship Network invite a two American Pastors to come and share in multiple day-long seminars with the African Pastors.  For 2011, they have invited Justin Hoeppner and I to come and share.  We will be teaching and leading worship in the conference as well as ministering in other churches.  We are beyond excited to be invited to spend this time with some of our heroes.

A you might expect, this venture will be costly, and we are responsible for raising all the funds.  Will you join me?  In the next few days, I’ll let you know how you can be part of the journey!
