Nevertheless, each one should retain the place in life that the Lord assigned to him and to which God has called him. This is the rule I lay down in all the churches. I Cor 7:17
We are a fickle bunch. We run from one place to the next, sometimes looking for the next fix. Sometimes we trick ourselves into thinking a new situation will solve some issues. Maybe a change of scenery. Maybe a new challenge will give us a new perspective. Paul here says stay in the place God put you. That could mean the physical place that God put you. It could mean that you stay true to your true North, your mission.
I was sharing coffee with a new friend yesterday. “So, what is your mission?” he asks.
It all really falls on that. What is the place or mission that God has assigned you? Get that down and the rest is cake; and sometimes a ton of fun. We can change locations, careers, or life circumstances, but the mission remains the same.
God, thanks for the fantastic reminder that you make assignments and call us to a life on mission. Thanks for the great ride.
